Overview

Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Tourism Association will host the "2026 Wondosim Night Tour: Island Night Season" festival for two days, from Saturday, October 17 to Sunday, October 18, throughout the Wondosim (old downtown) area of Jeju-si. The festival was planned to develop nighttime tourism content in the old downtown and to revitalize the surrounding commercial district by drawing in visitors. On cool autumn nights, it offers families, friends, and couples the chance to create cherished memories while enjoying a variety of performances and events. In particular, on October 17, the first day of the festival, a "Night Walk" will be held, allowing visitors to set aside the busyness of daily life and stroll through the old downtown to soak in its atmosphere. In addition, concerts and fireworks will take place at Jeju-si's Topdong Square on both days.

Why go

This two-day festival turns Jeju City's old downtown (Wondosim) into a nighttime destination, with concerts and fireworks at Topdong Square on both evenings. The opening night's 'Night Walk' lets visitors stroll the historic district at a relaxed pace, making it a good pick for families, friends, or couples looking for a cool autumn evening out.

Getting there from Seoul

Jeju is an island, so travel from Seoul is by air rather than rail or coach; frequent domestic flights connect Gimpo Airport (and some routes from Incheon) to Jeju International Airport in about an hour. From the airport, the Wondosim old downtown area and Topdong Square are a short taxi or local bus ride away, roughly 15-20 minutes.

Tips

  • Bring a jacket, as mid-October evenings in Jeju can be cool, especially near the waterfront at Topdong Square.
  • Arrive early on October 17 to join the Night Walk through the old downtown before crowds build for the evening performances.
  • Topdong Square draws large crowds for the fireworks on both nights, so pick a viewing spot ahead of time.

Best for: families, couples, photographers, nightlife.

    Jeju Olive Flounder Festival

    Oct 9 – Oct 11, 2026

Held every October since 2016, the Jeju Olive Flounder Festival is the only domestic event themed around olive flounder, promoting the consumption and excellence of Jeju's farmed olive flounder. It offers a variety of dishes made with olive flounder—such as sashimi, sushi, fish cakes, tteokbokki, and pajeon (green onion pancake)—at affordable prices, widely showcasing the taste and quality of Jeju olive flounder. As Jeju's representative seafood food festival, union members who farm olive flounder sell dishes made from the flounder they have carefully raised at low prices, earning favorable reviews from both residents and tourists. The festival also features a variety of hands-on events—including the Jeju Olive Flounder Singing Contest, a youth dance competition, a children's drawing contest, and bare-handed catching of olive flounder and marbled sole—offering a range of programs that residents, tourists, and children alike can directly participate in and enjoy.

2026 5th Jeju Biennale Heokkeugok Modakchigok Iyahong: The Art of Transformation

    Aug 25 – Nov 15, 2026

The civilization that blossomed on Jeju, a volcanic island on the Eurasian plate, flowed in not only from the sea but also arrived from the continental civilizations of the north. All manner of elements scattered and gathered on Jeju, mingling and transforming to shape today's ecology, geography, and way of life on Jeju. Now entering its 10th year, the 5th Jeju Biennale focuses on Jeju's dynamic process of encountering northern civilizations, scattering (heokkeuda), gathering (modakchida), and transforming (iyahong). To this end, the Biennale takes as its thematic word and core concept 'Iyahong,' the refrain of the Iyahong Taryeong, a folk song that flowed in from the mainland and became another indigenous folk song of Jeju. Through Jeju, where the principles of climate and sustenance are embedded, the Jeju Biennale seeks to present the ways of survival and the aesthetics shaped together by objects, nature, human life, and divinity.
