2026 5th Jeju Biennale Heokkeugok Modakchigok Iyahong: The Art of Transformation
Aug 25 – Nov 15, 2026 · Happening now · Jeju

Overview
The civilization that blossomed on Jeju, a volcanic island on the Eurasian plate, flowed in not only from the sea but also arrived from the continental civilizations of the north. All manner of elements scattered and gathered on Jeju, mingling and transforming to shape today's ecology, geography, and way of life on Jeju. Now entering its 10th year, the 5th Jeju Biennale focuses on Jeju's dynamic process of encountering northern civilizations, scattering (heokkeuda), gathering (modakchida), and transforming (iyahong). To this end, the Biennale takes as its thematic word and core concept 'Iyahong,' the refrain of the Iyahong Taryeong, a folk song that flowed in from the mainland and became another indigenous folk song of Jeju. Through Jeju, where the principles of climate and sustenance are embedded, the Jeju Biennale seeks to present the ways of survival and the aesthetics shaped together by objects, nature, human life, and divinity.

Gwimong Jeju Shinhwa World
Sep 18 – Nov 1, 2026
Gwimong is an outdoor horror experience program operated at the Jeju Shinhwa World theme park. Its main programs consist of the Ghost Zone for horror experiences, the Safe Zone for a variety of activities, and nighttime rides experiences. The horror experience is set against a backdrop of actual natural terrain, with participants moving through the darkness and encountering a variety of horror scenes. Gwimong heightens tension by making use of natural darkness, sound, and visual effects, and alongside the horror, a horror party enjoyed by people of all ages is also held. In addition, the theme park's rides — Oska Spin, Express, and Playground — can all be experienced simultaneously in their Gwimong versions. In the auxiliary space known as Gwimong Market, rest and F&B programs such as Gwimong Pub, Gwimong Makeup Shop, and Gwimong Food are operated, along with a photo zone.
