Overview

Seoul Silver Grass Festival takes place at Haneul Park. Originally a garbage dump, the land was reformed and transformed into the vibrant, healthy ecosystem it has today in large part thanks to the planting of silver grass. The park now features the largest colony of silver grass found in Seoul, and hosts the Seoul Silver Grass Festival every year in October when the grass is in bloom.

Why go

Haneul Park (Sky Park) in Mapo-gu holds Seoul's largest colony of silver grass, and this free festival celebrates its October bloom. The park itself has a notable backstory — it was reclaimed from a former landfill into a hilltop ecological park, part of the wider World Cup Park complex.

Getting there from Seoul

Take Subway Line 6 to World Cup Stadium Station (Exit 1) and follow signs through World Cup Park toward Haneul Park. The park sits on a hill, so you'll need to climb a set of stairs or a sloped ramp (there's a small eco-shuttle bus for a fee if you'd rather skip the climb) to reach the silver grass fields at the top.

Tips

  • Wear comfortable walking shoes — the park is on a hill and reached by stairs or a ramp.
  • Admission is free; the festival runs daily 10:00-21:00.
  • Go in late afternoon for softer light on the silver grass, especially if you're taking photos.

Best for: families, photographers, nature lovers.
