Why go
This festival turns a stretch of Paju into a themed street celebrating Gaeseong ginseng, with the Jangdan Sambaek Cuisine Competition (around 20 teams), busking and stage performances, and exhibition halls to explore. Visitors can buy ginseng directly from on-site sellers, bid in a ginseng auction, and join paid or free hands-on experience programs for all ages.
Getting there from Seoul
The venue is at Imjingak in Munsan-eup, Paju, near the DMZ. The Gyeongui-Jungang commuter line runs directly to Imjingak Station, a short walk or taxi ride from the festival grounds. Alternatively, intercity buses to Munsan run from Seoul bus terminals, with a local taxi or bus connection on to Imjingak.
Tips
- Buy ginseng straight from the festival's direct-sale shops for good quality and prices.
- Dress for an outdoor street festival, as most of the site is open-air.
- Reserve paid experience programs or the ginseng auction early if you want to join.
Best for: families, food lovers, day-trippers.

2026 DMZ OPEN Festival
Oct 12 – Nov 29, 2026
The DMZ OPEN Festival is Gyeonggi-do's flagship multi-genre cultural event, designed to let visitors directly experience the peace, ecological, and historical value of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) through art, academic programs, sports, and more. Rather than viewing the DMZ simply as a space of division and military tension, the festival reinterprets its long-preserved ecological environment and historical significance, along with the possibility of peace and coexistence, through today's cultural language. Gyeonggi-do is expanding this idea under the concept of 'OPEN'—transforming the 'closed' DMZ into a space open to everyone—and the event is run not as a single occasion but as a long-running program spanning multiple genres.
