Busan Jagalchi Festival
Oct 15 – Oct 18, 2026 · Busan
Overview
The Busan Jagalchi Festival is Busan's premier marine and fisheries culture festival, held every October at Jagalchi Market, Korea's leading seafood market. It begins with Yongsinje, a traditional ritual ceremony praying for a bountiful catch, and this year visitors can also enjoy a pungmulpae (traditional folk percussion troupe) performance during the gilnori street parade. The festival's opening ceremony features a spectacular fireworks show lighting up Namhang (South Port), followed by celebratory performances from popular singers, including Miss Trot winner Song Ga-in. There is also a 'festival within a festival' — the Jagalchi Dried Seafood Food Zone — offering a space for the MZ generation (millennials and Gen Z) and family visitors. A variety of hands-on events for visitors are also prepared, including the Eel Relay Race and Catch the Golden Fish, and the festival's signature event, Making the World's Largest Raw Fish Bibimbap, will be shared for free with the many citizens and visitors at the venue.
Why go
This is Busan's biggest marine and fisheries festival, centered on Jagalchi Market, Korea's leading seafood market. Highlights include a traditional Yongsinje ritual and gilnori street parade with a pungmulpae percussion troupe, an opening-night fireworks show over Namhang (South Port) with performances by popular singers including Miss Trot winner Song Ga-in, and a free communal Raw Fish Bibimbap event alongside hands-on activities like the Eel Relay Race.
Getting there from Seoul
Take the KTX from Seoul Station to Busan Station (roughly 2.5-3 hours), then walk or take a short taxi/subway ride to the Jagalchi-ro area in Jung-gu; Busan Metro Line 1 stops at Jagalchi Station near the market. Express or intercity buses to Busan (around 4-5 hours) are a budget alternative, arriving at Busan's bus terminals with a further subway or taxi connection to Jagalchi.
Tips
- Wear comfortable, closed shoes — the market area gets crowded and can be wet or slippery underfoot.
- Arrive early for the opening-night fireworks over Namhang to secure a good viewing spot.
- Expect long queues for the free Raw Fish Bibimbap event given its popularity, so plan your timing around it.
Best for: seafood lovers, families, photographers, foodies.

Busan Craft Beer Masters Challenge
Oct 16 – Oct 18, 2026
The Busan Craft Beer Masters Challenge is a downtown craft beer festival that brings together breweries and consumers from across the country to promote Busan's craft beer culture and boost the local economy. Distinctive craft beers from around the country and Busan's representative local breweries gather in one place to showcase a wide variety of beers, giving participants the chance to taste an array of beers and experience the appeal of craft brewing firsthand. The festival's centerpiece program is the 'Masters Challenge Competition,' which determines the best craft beer. Breweries compete on skill and the quality of their beer through scoring by a panel of professional judges and a citizen judging panel, adding tension and excitement to the festival through friendly competition. The festival also features a craft beer market showcasing each brewery's signature beers, along with hands-on experience programs and other content that anyone can enjoy easily. Adding to this are a variety of food and beer pairings, busking and DJ performances, and audience participation events, keeping the festival's energy going from day into night. In the evening especially, a Beer Night blending music and beer offers visitors a space to mingle freely and share in the festival's excitement. More than just a beer-drinking festival, the Busan Craft Beer Masters Challenge is a leading beer culture festival where visitors can experience Busan's craft beer culture anew through the process of tasting, experiencing, competing, and enjoying.

Busan Mackerel Festival
Oct 30 – Nov 1, 2026
The Busan Mackerel Festival has been held every October since 2008 at Songdo Beach — Korea's first public beach, boasting diverse tourist attractions such as the Songdo Yonggung Cloud Bridge, Songdo Cloud Trail, and Songdo Marine Cable Car, and now celebrated as one of Korea's hot spots. The festival was planned to create synergy between local economic revitalization and tourism industry development by turning the festival into a tourism product linked with food, culture and arts, and tourism resources, leveraging the region's unique characteristics as home to the Large Purse Seine Fisheries Cooperative, which catches about 90% of the mackerel produced in coastal waters, and the Busan Cooperative Fish Market, where 80% of the nation's mackerel supply is traded. With mackerel, Korea's beloved national fish, as its theme, the festival is jointly planned, participated in, and promoted by fisheries industry stakeholders and local residents, and its reputation is growing as not merely a food festival but a cultural and arts festival with things to see and enjoy, as well as Korea's leading fisheries culture festival that fosters and develops the fisheries-related industry. The festival offers domestic and international visitors a unique festival experience by running distinctive and novel experience, tour, exhibition, competition, and performance programs, including its signature programs such as an on-site tour of the Busan Cooperative Fish Market, bare-handed mackerel catching, a surprise mackerel auction, mackerel hunting by kayak, a mackerel paper boat race, a direct seafood marketplace, and a mackerel food market.
