2026 Namsan Night Festival
Oct 23 – Nov 14, 2026 · Seoul

Overview
A new kind of nighttime fun begins on Namsan this autumn. Against the backdrop of Namsan's nature and night views, the 2026 Namsan Night Festival offers a special nighttime experience unique to Namsan through 'Namsan Campnic,' where visitors can relax at Baekbeom Square; 'Autumn Foliage Walk,' which lets visitors discover new scenery while walking through Namsan on an autumn night; and 'Palgak Club,' where visitors can enjoy silent DJing together with Seoul's night view. An autumn night on Namsan filled with autumn foliage and night views, performances and films, food and activities, and music. Beyond the experience at the venue, visitors can continue on into the surrounding area, encountering a new nighttime leisure culture that lets them enjoy Namsan and the local area together.
Why go
This new autumn festival turns Namsan into a nighttime destination, combining the mountain's autumn foliage and skyline views with programming such as 'Namsan Campnic' at Baekbeom Square, a nighttime 'Autumn Foliage Walk,' and the silent-disco 'Palgak Club.' The event mixes performances, films, food, activities and music against Seoul's night view, with the experience extending into the surrounding neighbourhood as well.
Getting there from Seoul
Namsan sits in central Seoul's Jung-gu district, near Hoehyeon-dong. From elsewhere in the city, take Seoul Subway Line 4 to Hoehyeon Station or Myeongdong Station, then walk up toward the mountain or take the Namsan cable car; Seoul Station is also within easy walking or short taxi distance.
Tips
- Bring a warm layer, as late-October and November evenings on the hill can be windy and cool.
- Wear comfortable shoes, since the Autumn Foliage Walk and Baekbeom Square area involve uphill walking.
- Programming is spread across multiple spots on Namsan, so allow time to move between venues over the course of an evening.
Best for: couples, nightlife, nature walks, photographers.

2026 Sungnyemun Watch Duty Ceremony
Jan 1 – Dec 31, 2026
The 'Sungnyemun Watch Duty Ceremony,' which guards Sungnyemun, is closed every Monday and runs daily except Mondays from 10:00 to 15:40. Pasu (watch duty) refers to the defense of the capital city, and was one of the important military ceremonies of the Joseon dynasty. Defense of the capital was the most critical issue of the Joseon dynasty, and it became an especially serious problem during the reign of King Seonjo, amid crises such as the Imjin War (Japanese invasions of Korea) and the Byeongja War (Manchu invasion). The watch duty ceremony was a Joseon-era military ceremony that linked the opening and closing of the capital gates—performed at injeong (the evening curfew bell) and paru (the dawn bell)—with the patrol ceremony. Considering its position and role within the central military system, it was a ceremony no less important than guarding the palace walls. The procedure of the 'Sungnyemun Watch Duty Ceremony' is as follows: the watch guards line up in formation in front of Sungnyemun, their post, and the geumnugwan (timekeeping official) appears to announce paru, after which signals are sounded on the nagak (conch horn) and nabal (long horn). At the command of the hogun (guard commander), the watch guards carry out the gate-opening ceremony of Sungnyemun. The watch duty ceremony guarding Sungnyemun then begins, with the 1st watch guard unit and 2nd watch guard unit performing a shift change before continuing the watch duty ceremony. This is followed by 6 rounds of shift-change and watch duty ceremonies, after which, at the command of the hogun, the watch guards carry out the gate-closing ceremony of Sungnyemun.
