Yeonsan Jujube Culture Festival
Oct 9 – Oct 11, 2026 · Chungcheongnam-do
Overview
Leaving behind fields that once rippled with golden waves, in the season when a cool breeze makes you pull your collar tight, the Yeonsan Jujube Culture Festival is held in the town of Yeonsan, where the spirit of Gyebaek still lives and breathes — a festival brimming with warm hospitality and the taste of jujubes ripened under the autumn sun. Yeonsan jujubes gained their reputation after merchants began buying up and selling the large quantities produced throughout Yeonsan-myeon and the nearby areas of Beolgok-myeon, Yangchon-myeon, and Unju-myeon in Jeollabuk-do. Thanks to the efforts of Yeonsan jujube merchants striving to sell especially good jujubes to the consumers who travel to Yeonsan in person to buy them, the image of high-quality jujubes became widely known, and Yeonsan has established itself as a collection hub where more than 40% of the nation's jujubes are sold, growing, true to its reputation, into the country's largest production area. To promote Yeonsan's reputation as a jujube collection hub and the excellence of Yeonsan jujubes, during the Jujube Culture Festival visitors can not only buy jujubes at low prices but also enjoy a variety of events.
Why go
This festival celebrates Yeonsan, the country's largest jujube (Korean date) collection and trading hub, where more than 40% of the nation's jujubes change hands. Held as autumn cools and the harvest ripens, it lets visitors buy fresh jujubes directly at festival prices while taking in various festival events and the local hospitality tied to the area's Baekje-era Gyebaek heritage.
Getting there from Seoul
Take a train (ITX-Saemaeul or Mugunghwa) on the Janghang Line from Seoul (Yongsan Station) to Nonsan Station, or ride an express/intercity bus from a Seoul terminal to Nonsan Bus Terminal. From Nonsan, Yeonsan-myeon is a further local bus or taxi ride, since the festival site is outside the main city center.
Tips
- Bring cash for buying jujubes directly from local growers and merchants at festival-discounted prices.
- Early October evenings in Chungcheongnam-do can turn cool, so dress in layers.
- Yeonsan-myeon is a small rural town with limited public transport, so confirm local bus times in advance or plan for a taxi back to Nonsan Station or the bus terminal.
