Jeonju Hanji Culture Festival
Oct 8 – Oct 10, 2026
Since its launch in 1997, the Jeonju Hanji Culture Festival has led the industrialization and globalization of Jeonju hanji (traditional Korean paper), working to promote the excellence of this thousand-year-old craft far and wide. The festival also reinterprets the many functions and values of hanji through a cultural lens, expressing the beauty and worth that hanji has held for people throughout the ages. The annual 'National Hanji Craft Exhibition' discovers hanji works infused with the dedication and skill of craftspeople from across the country, contributing to the development and wider appreciation of hanji craft. The 'National Children's Hanji Art Contest' is a competition in which children display their boundless imagination and creativity on hanji canvases, helping future generations naturally encounter Korea's unique hanji culture and understand its value and beauty. In this way, the Jeonju Hanji Culture Festival goes beyond the preservation and development of traditional hanji — by reinterpreting it as modern cultural content and creating a space of culture and art that diverse generations can enjoy together, it leads the way in promoting the value of Jeonju hanji both at home and abroad.
