Ulsan Jung-gu National Heritage Night Tour
Oct 23 – Oct 25, 2026 · Ulsan

Overview
The Ulsan National Heritage Night Tour is a nighttime historical and cultural festival that sheds new light on the value of Ulsan's national heritage, centered on the relationship between two leaders who each headed civil (文) and military (武) affairs within a single county during the Joseon dynasty. Using Ulsan Dongheon and Naea, which symbolizes the civil (文) sphere, and Gyeongsangjwa-do Byeongyeongseong, which symbolizes the military (武) sphere, as the two main stages, the festival reinterprets through today's eyes the relationship and conflict between the two leaders as recorded in the Sejong Sillok (Annals of King Sejong) and the Myeongjong Sillok (Annals of King Myeongjong). The story of these two figures, who held different roles and values, unfolds in the flow of 'thesis (正) – antithesis (反) – synthesis (合).' Through a narrative that begins with confrontation and conflict and arrives at understanding and harmony, the festival conveys to visitors the historical meaning of achieving coexistence beyond conflict. This story is brought to life through various forms such as performances, exhibitions, hands-on activities, guided explanations, and night scenery, allowing anyone to encounter Ulsan's history and culture easily and enjoyably. In particular, by weaving the historical significance of Ulsan Dongheon and Naea and Gyeongsangjwa-do Byeongyeongseong into a single story, it is Ulsan's representative national heritage night festival that clearly reveals the unique value of each of the two national heritage sites along with the regional identity unique to Ulsan.
Why go
This is a rare nighttime festival that uses two of Ulsan's national heritage sites as paired stages to retell a Joseon-era story of conflict between the region's civil and military leaders, moving from confrontation to reconciliation. Expect performances, exhibitions, hands-on activities, and guided explanations set against illuminated historic architecture at Ulsan Dongheon and Naea and Gyeongsangjwa-do Byeongyeongseong.
Getting there from Seoul
