Tripitaka Koreana Cultural Festival
Oct 9 – Nov 1, 2026 · Happening now · Gyeongsangnam-do

Overview
The Tripitaka Koreana Cultural Festival showcases the cultural values of Tripitaka Koreana combined with vibrant content featuring splendid autumn flowers. Visitors can enjoy fall flowers and take part in various hands-on activities.
Why go
This festival pairs the cultural significance of the Tripitaka Koreana, the UNESCO-listed Buddhist scripture woodblocks, with autumn flower displays at the Gayasan foothills. It's a good pick for visitors who want scenery and heritage together rather than just one or the other. The hands-on activity component makes it suitable for a mixed-age group, not just a walkthrough exhibit.
Getting there from Seoul
There's no direct KTX or ITX service into Hapcheon-gun, so the usual route is an express or intercity bus from a Seoul terminal (such as Seoul Nambu or Dong Seoul Bus Terminal) to Hapcheon Bus Terminal, a trip of roughly half a day including transfers. From Hapcheon Bus Terminal, continue by local bus or taxi toward Gaya-myeon and the Gayasan area, where the Tripitaka Koreana Theme Park is located. Driving is the more flexible option given the rural location, as last-leg public transit from the terminal can be infrequent.
Tips
- Admission is paid, and hands-on experience activities carry separate fees, so budget extra beyond the base ticket.
- Hours run 09:00–18:00, so plan to arrive well before closing to see both the festival grounds and any Gayasan-area scenery.
- The venue sits in a mountain foothill setting, so wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for cooler autumn temperatures.
Best for: families, culture enthusiasts, photographers, nature lovers.

The 4th Chilgok Transmedia Festival
Sep 15 – Oct 25, 2026
The 4th Chilgok Transmedia Festival is a cultural arts festival held throughout Waegwan-eup, Chilgok-gun, designed to let visitors experience the area's spaces and cultural resources in new ways by combining them with diverse media content. This year's festival takes as its theme the friendship between the poet Gu Sang and the painter Lee Jung-seop, expanding on the two artists' lives and body of work through literature, art, media, and performance content. In particular, rather than concentrating content in a single venue, the festival is run as a space-migrating festival in which visitors move through everyday spaces throughout Waegwan-eup to experience the programs directly.
