Overview

'The Birth of the Jeolla Provincial Governor' is a hands-on, immersive historical experience program set against the backdrop of Jeollagamyeong (the Jeolla Provincial Government Office), in which visitors directly resolve an incident that took place at Jeollagamyeong during the Joseon Dynasty, following the process through which a new Jeolla provincial governor is born. Performed in real time by around 20 professional actors, the program links the events within its storyline into a single play at set times. Visitors can also listen to the stories of the Joseon-era occupations held by the characters within Jeollagamyeong, and experience the daily life of Jeollagamyeong during the Joseon Dynasty through various nostalgic games and Joseon-era job experiences — going beyond simple viewing to become part of the play and experience the historical site firsthand.

Why go

This is a live, immersive history program staged at Jeollagamyeong, the old Jeolla Provincial Government Office, where visitors help resolve a Joseon-era incident as part of the story of a new provincial governor's appointment. About 20 professional actors perform the linked scenes as a single play at set times, and visitors can also hear about Joseon-era occupations and try nostalgic games and job experiences on site. It suits travellers who want hands-on historical theatre rather than a static exhibit.

Getting there from Seoul

Take the KTX from Seoul (Yongsan or Seoul Station) to Jeonju Station, a journey of roughly 1.5–2 hours, or an express bus from Seoul's Central City/Gangnam terminals, about 3 hours. From Jeonju Station or the bus terminal, a taxi or local bus will get you to Jeollagamyeong at 55 Jeollagamyeong-ro, Wansan-gu, in central Jeonju.

Tips

  • The storyline is performed as a single play at set times, so check local timing on arrival rather than just dropping by for the games.
  • The run spans 18 October to 29 November, so bring layers for cooler autumn weather, especially outdoors.
  • Confirm same-day details (schedule, participation) on-site or with the venue, since specific showtimes aren't listed here.

Best for: history buffs, families, culture enthusiasts, photographers.
