Overview

The Suncheon Food & Art Festival is a festival where food and art come together as one, held every fall as Suncheon City's signature festival. Citizens, local small business owners, and artists all take part together, turning the old downtown area — including Jungang-ro, Culture Street, and Nammunteo Square — into a single festival ground across the entire city center. At the food market, distinctive snacks made with local ingredients are sold, while the art market offers drawing, calligraphy, and various hands-on craft experiences, along with plant interior decor, woodworking, fabric goods, and other handicrafts for sale. During the festival, the Jungang-ro area is run as a car-free street, filled with a variety of street performances, exhibitions, and hands-on experience spaces, giving visitors a diverse range of sights, food, and fun.

Why go

This festival blends food and art into one citywide event, as local residents, small business owners, and artists turn Suncheon's old downtown (Jungang-ro, Culture Street, and Nammunteo Square) into a single festival ground. Visitors can browse a food market for local snacks alongside an art market offering drawing, calligraphy, and craft experiences, plus street performances and exhibitions along a car-free main street.

Getting there from Seoul

Suncheon is reachable from Seoul by KTX to Suncheon Station, or by express bus from Seoul's intercity bus terminals to Suncheon Bus Terminal. From either station, Nammunteo Square and Jungang-ro in the old downtown are a short local bus or taxi ride away.

Tips

  • Jungang-ro is closed to cars during the festival, so plan to park farther out and walk into the old downtown.
  • Treat the food market stalls as your main meal option, since the street itself is where the local snacks are sold.
  • Mid-October evenings in Suncheon can be cool, so bring a light jacket for browsing the outdoor market and performance areas.

Best for: food lovers, families, art and craft enthusiasts, photographers.

2026 Carbon Neutrality Soil Revival Expo

    Oct 23 – Oct 25, 2026

This is a participatory expo that expands the value of Gurye's clean soil and eco-friendly agriculture into exhibition, hands-on experience, gourmet food, performances, and win-win content, allowing visitors to naturally understand and practice the meaning of carbon neutrality by seeing, walking on, touching, and tasting the soil. It sought to turn the broad challenge of responding to climate change and practicing carbon neutrality into the everyday, life-close theme of 'soil and agriculture,' encouraging understanding and voluntary participation from county residents and visitors alike. In addition, centering on Gurye's clean soil and eco-friendly agriculture, it built expo content unique to Gurye by linking Korean wheat, local agricultural specialty products, policies for returning to farming and rural life, and the tourism resources of Jirisan and the Seomjingang River. Moving beyond a viewing-oriented event centered on thematic exhibits, it was organized so that visitors could directly experience the value and importance of soil through participatory programs combining walking, hands-on experiences, gourmet food, performances, sales, and overnight tourism. Through this event, the organizers aim to contribute to revitalizing the local economy and creating community value by building a cooperative system in which local farmers, related organizations, businesses, cultural and artistic figures, and residents take part as both content providers and event operators.

    2026 Namdo K-Garden Festival

    Sep 11 – Oct 31, 2026

The 2026 Namdo K-Garden Festival is a nighttime garden festival held around Yeomun Culture Street and Yeoseo Migwan Square in Yeosu-si. The festival's theme is 'Yeosu's Night Garden, Embracing the Islands,' and the event runs for a total of 51 days, from September 11 to October 31, 2026. The festival aims to make use of the spatial characteristics of the old downtown area through content that connects gardens with nighttime scenery, and to provide citizens and tourists with an opportunity to enjoy garden culture. About 40 gardens, including signature gardens, designer gardens, and citizen-participation gardens, are created at the venue, and the space is designed to be enjoyed both day and night through a variety of plants and landscape displays. At night, lighting design is applied to highlight the gardens' scenery, providing a viewing environment connected to Yeosu's nighttime tourism resources. During the event period, various programs are run, including garden guide programs, cultural performances, experience programs, and citizen-participation programs, and programs linked to the local commercial district and tourism resources are also carried out together.
