Samnangseong History and Culture Festival
Oct 3 – Oct 11, 2026 · Incheon

Overview
Samnangseong, which surrounds Jeondeungsa Temple, is said by legend to have been built by Dangun's three sons to defend against foreign invasions. During the Goryeo Dynasty, after the capital was moved to Ganghwa Island to escape the Mongol invasion, this was also the place where the royal court, burning with the resolve to resist the Mongols, held the 120-day Daebuljeongosoldoryang Buddhist ritual at the temporary palace within Samnangseong. It is also the place where the Joseonwangjosillok (Annals of the Joseon Dynasty) were stored for 250 years, and the site of victory over French forces during the Byeongin Yangyo. Furthermore, it is also the place where righteous army fighters achieved victory in a week-long battle resisting Japanese forces during the late Korean Empire period. It is a site that has continuously intersected with our history for 5,000 years and embodies the national pride and self-respect held within our history. To feel pride in our proud history and to spread awareness of it widely, the Samnangseong History and Culture Festival has been held every year starting from the first Saturday of October, and this year marks its 26th edition.
