Why go

The Sacheon Air Show is the largest air show and aerospace festival in southern Korea, held in Sacheon, a city positioned as Korea's aerospace hub since the opening of the Korea AeroSpace Administration. The 2026 edition runs four days with flight displays, aerospace and defense industry exhibits, aircraft and equipment displays, experience flights, and related competitions.

Getting there from Seoul

Sacheon has its own domestic airport with flights from Gimpo, which is the most direct option from Seoul. Alternatively, take a KTX or ITX train toward Jinju (the nearest major rail hub) and continue to Sacheon by local bus or taxi, or take a direct express bus from a Seoul terminal to Sacheon.

Tips

  • Book accommodation in Sacheon or nearby Jinju well ahead, as options are limited during the festival
  • Confirm the daily program schedule and any ticket requirements closer to the dates, since venue hours and fees aren't published yet
  • The event is on an airfield, so wear comfortable shoes and bring sun protection for time outdoors

    Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival

    Oct 3 – Oct 18, 2026

The tradition of yudeung, or floating lanterns, dates back to the Battle of Jinjuseong Fortress, one of the three major victories of the Imjin War (Japanese invasions of Korea, 1592–1598). During the battle, lanterns were floated on the Namgang River as military signals to communicate with Righteous Army forces outside the fortress and as a means for families to exchange messages and check on one another. Jinju has carried on this tradition by organizing the Yudeung event as part of the Gaecheon Art Festival, first held in 1949 and regarded as Korea's first comprehensive regional arts festival. Since 2000, the festival has been held independently as the Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival.
