Getting there from Seoul
Take a KTX or train toward the Jeonju/Jeollabuk-do area, or a direct express/intercity bus from Seoul's bus terminals to Muju Bus Terminal, then continue locally to Jangteo-ro in Muju-eup. Check current timetables before travelling, as rural bus connections can be infrequent.
Tips
- Visit in the evening for the night market food booths and music performances, and return in daytime hours for the fresh produce market.
- Bring cash, as small local farmers' stalls at rural markets often prefer it over cards.
- Confirm the exact festival hours and site layout locally, since detailed hours were not specified in advance.
Best for: food lovers, families, local culture.

Gimcheon Gimbap Festival
Oct 23 – Oct 25, 2026
First held in 2024, the Gimcheon Gimbap Festival grew out of a playful remark by young people, who said the name “Gimcheon” reminded them of Gimbap Cheonguk (“Gimbap Heaven”), a popular gimbap restaurant chain. From there came the idea of turning Gimcheon into a real-life gimbap heaven. Held every October at Samyeongdaesa Park, Jikji Culture Park, and the nearby Ecological Park, the festival celebrates gimbap as both K-food and K-culture. For many Koreans, a simple roll of gimbap also brings back fond memories of school picnics and fall outings. Visitors can taste original creations from the annual Gimbap Cooking Competition, as well as selections from the Gimbap Factory, the festival's signature Monk Gimbap, local gimbap, and creative varieties from across Korea. The festival also features a wide range of gimbap-themed activities, exhibitions, performances, and games. Built entirely around gimbap and the visitor experience, it has created quite a buzz on social media with its fresh ideas and sense of fun. It has also established itself as a popular fall event where visitors can enjoy a memorable picnic with gimbap at its heart.
