Let's Gather and Go
Oct 17, 2026 · Jeollabuk-do

Overview
Step back to 1894, the day the Donghak Peasant Army marched toward Jeonju Fortress.
"Let's Gather and Go" is a special historical and cultural event that allows citizens to become the Donghak Peasant Army themselves and take part in the heart of history. Following the historic moments of the Donghak Peasant Army's entry into Jeonju Fortress and the Jeonju Peace Agreement in 1894, citizens take direct part through a street parade, theatrical performances, and hands-on experiences to relive the story of that day.
Rather than simply viewing a scene from history, the event offers a special experience of directly participating in and helping create it together, allowing people to more vividly understand the history and spirit of the Donghak Peasant Revolution, and to feel the meaning of community and the value of civic participation by coming together and connecting with one another.
Why go
This one-day event reenacts the 1894 Donghak Peasant Army's march into Jeonju Fortress and the historic Jeonju Peace Agreement, right at the Pungnammun gate where it happened. Instead of just watching, visitors can join the street parade and hands-on activities alongside theatrical performances, making it a rare chance to experience Korean history as a participant rather than a spectator.
Getting there from Seoul
Jeonju is reached from Seoul by express bus (from Seoul Express Bus Terminal or Central City Terminal) or by train (ITX-Saemaeul/Mugunghwa from Yongsan Station, or KTX via a transfer at Iksan) to Jeonju Station, a journey of roughly 2.5-3 hours. From Jeonju's bus terminal or train station, the Pungnammun gate and Jeon-dong area are a short taxi or local bus ride away, within the Jeonju Hanok Village district.
Tips
- Check local listings for the exact parade/performance schedule, as start times aren't fixed in advance for a single-day street event.
- Arrive early and expect street closures around Pungnammun and the fortress area during the parade.
- Combine the visit with a walk through nearby Jeonju Hanok Village, since the event site sits right at its entrance.
Best for: history buffs, families, photographers, culture enthusiasts.
