Hwangmaesan Silver Grass Festival
Oct 17 – Oct 25, 2026 · Gyeongsangnam-do

Overview
As autumn deepens, Hwangmaesan is dyed in silver with eulalia (silver grass). The 5th Hwangmaesan Silver Grass Festival is a festival where visitors can fully enjoy the atmosphere of autumn against the backdrop of beautiful silver grass scenery, while also enjoying various performances and experiences. Starting with the opening ceremony on October 17, celebratory performances and weekend culture and arts performances continue, and on weekdays, programs offering small pleasures are prepared, such as Hwangmaesan Four-Cut Photos, Healing Music Listening, Catch the 10 Seconds, and Dice Game. During the festival period, a local agricultural specialty sales area and food market also operate, letting visitors feel the local flavors and warmth together with Hwangmaesan's autumn scenery. A sharing-cart tour for those with limited mobility and a docent tour exploring various spots around Hwangmaesan with a forest interpreter are also prepared, so that anyone can comfortably experience Hwangmaesan. Walking slowly while gazing at the silver grass swaying in the wind, and enjoying performances and experiences amid the beautiful scenery, you will soon find yourself in the middle of autumn. It will be a time to visit Hwangmaesan with family, loved ones, or friends and create an autumn day that will stay in your memory for a long time.
Why go
Hwangmaesan turns silver each autumn as its eulalia (silver grass) fields sway across the mountain, and this 5th edition of the festival (October 17-25, 2026) pairs that scenery with an opening ceremony, weekend culture and arts performances, and small weekday activities like four-cut photos, healing music listening, and docent-led forest walks. It's a relaxed, scenery-first festival suited to slow walks rather than big crowds or rides.
Getting there from Seoul
There's no direct KTX service to Hapcheon, so the most common route is KTX from Seoul to Dongdaegu Station, then a transfer to an intercity or express bus bound for Hapcheon bus terminal. Alternatively, an express bus runs directly from a Seoul terminal (such as Seoul Nambu Terminal) to Hapcheon. From Hapcheon bus terminal, continue by local bus or taxi to the festival site at 331 Hwangmaesan-gongwon-gil, Gahoe-myeon.
Tips
- Wear sturdy, comfortable shoes since the main draw is walking trails through the silver grass fields
- Visit on a weekday for a quieter experience, as weekend culture and arts performances draw larger crowds
- If mobility is limited, ask on site about the sharing-cart tour and the forest interpreter's docent tour
Best for: nature lovers, photographers, families, accessible travel.

Hapcheon Hwangto Hanwoo Festival
Oct 9 – Oct 11, 2026
The Hapcheon Hwangto Hanwoo Festival is a festival that Hapcheon County, Gyeongsangnam-do, first held in 2023 to promote its local Korean beef brand, Hapcheon Hwangto Hanwoo, and has continued every autumn since, marking its fourth edition this year. Hapcheon Hwangto Hanwoo is a Korean beef brand that has been jointly operated by Hapcheon County and the Hapcheon Livestock Cooperative since it was registered as a brand with the Korean Intellectual Property Office in 1999; it is produced by feeding cattle a specialized feed containing loess (hwangto) for more than 16 months, resulting in tender meat and rich flavor that consumers favor highly. The festival has been hosted and organized by the Hapcheon Livestock Industry Cooperative with the sponsorship of Hapcheon County, and it is notable that the number of visitors and sales have steadily grown with each edition. The 1st festival, held in October 2023, drew about 30,000 visitors, and the 3rd edition in 2025 drew about 79,000 visitors over three days, recording sales of 1.2 billion KRW, growing into one of Hapcheon's representative brand events. Given this trend, the 4th festival is being held with the accumulated experience of previous editions, so it can be seen as an event likely to be run on an expanded scale and with an expanded program compared to previous editions.
