Hongseong Baekban Festa
Oct 17 – Oct 18, 2026 · Chungcheongnam-do
Overview
The 2026 Hongseong Baekban Festa is a leading local food festival that showcases a variety of foods and cultural content made with Hongseong's fresh local produce and regional specialties. Now in its second year, the festival takes place against the backdrop of Gwangcheon Culture Market, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary, combining local tradition with contemporary food culture. A highlight of the festival is its unique menu reinterpreting Hongseong's agricultural and marine products, including the signature baekban (set meal) as well as baekban mandu (dumplings), gim-saeujeot-jeon (seaweed and salted shrimp pancake), Hongseong garlic hotteok, and Gwangcheon gim cream shrimp. It is also an opportunity to discover new possibilities and creative ideas in local food through dishes developed by local young entrepreneurs. Beyond the food, the festival offers a variety of attractions for visitors of all ages, including hands-on programs such as making Gwangcheon gim snacks, a Hongseong hanwoo (Korean beef) mini burger cooking class, and the Hongseong Treasure Hunt Challenge, as well as exhibitions, busking performances, and the 'Hongseong Baekban 6-Flavor Puzzle Tour.' In particular, held in connection with the 100th anniversary celebration of Gwangcheon Culture Market and the Gwangcheon Gim and Salted Shrimp Festival, it adds vitality to the local commercial district and promotes Hongseong's abundant food resources and cultural value. It is a festival where visitors can experience the taste and charm of Hongseong with all five senses and enjoy the region's unique food culture.
Why go
Now in its second year, this local food festival spotlights Hongseong's fresh produce and seafood through a reinterpreted baekban (set meal) menu, including baekban mandu, gim-saeujeot-jeon, Hongseong garlic hotteok, and Gwangcheon gim cream shrimp. It's held at the Gwangcheon Culture Market during the market's 100th-anniversary celebrations, alongside the Gwangcheon Gim and Salted Shrimp Festival, with hands-on cooking programs, exhibitions, busking, and a food-themed puzzle tour.
Getting there from Seoul
Gwangcheon-eup is in Hongseong-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, and is served by its own stop (Gwangcheon Station) on the Janghang Line, reachable by ITX-Mugunghwa or Mugunghwa trains from Seoul-area stations such as Yongsan. Intercity or express buses to Hongseong also run from Seoul's bus terminals, with a local taxi or transfer needed on to Gwangcheon-eup if you arrive at the main Hongseong terminal rather than Gwangcheon itself.
Tips
- Gwangcheon Culture Market is in Gwangcheon-eup, a separate town within Hongseong-gun — don't confuse it with central Hongseong town when planning transport.
- Expect queues for the signature baekban and other festival dishes, as the event centers on food sampling.
- Specific hours and admission fees weren't published in the source details, so check local signage or the market's own announcements on arrival.
