Overview

The Gimpo Marine Corps Culture Festival in Daemyeong Port is a festival that honors the resilient spirit and traditions of the Marine Corps, drawing on the local character of Gimpo as the home of the 2nd Marine Division. A variety of programs unfold, including displays of Marine Corps equipment, military band and honor guard performances, the Steel Muscle Competition, and dog tag and octagonal cap making, giving citizens a chance to see, experience, and connect with Marine Corps culture firsthand. In addition, the rooftop plaza of the seafood direct-sales market hosts the 'Sunset Night Market,' where visitors can enjoy Gimpo's local food, including seasonal seafood, local produce, and self-barbecue. As evening falls, a night-market-style food market and busking continue against the backdrop of the sunset over Daemyeong Port. It is a special time when two different themes come together in one place — Marine Corps culture by day, and sunset and food by night.

Why go

A single-day festival at Daemyeong Port that combines Marine Corps culture by day - equipment displays, military band and honor guard performances, a Steel Muscle Competition, and dog tag/octagonal cap making - with a sunset food market by night, reflecting Gimpo's identity as home to the 2nd Marine Division. The evening 'Sunset Night Market' on the seafood market's rooftop plaza adds local seafood, produce, self-barbecue, and busking against the port's sunset backdrop.

Getting there from Seoul

Gimpo is in western Gyeonggi-do just outside Seoul, so no KTX or ITX is needed for a trip this short. The venue is in Daegot-myeon on the Gimpo side of the coast, away from the Gimpo Gold Line subway stations, so plan on a bus or taxi transfer from central Gimpo, or drive directly - allow roughly an hour from central Seoul depending on traffic.

Tips

  • It's a one-day event (7 November 2026), so confirm the exact daytime and night-market hours before heading out.
  • Early November evenings by the water are cold, so bring layers for the sunset market and busking.
  • Bring cash or a card for the seafood market and food stalls, and consider arriving early since parking may be limited for a one-day festival.

Best for: military history, food lovers, sunset photographers, families.
