Overview
The 205 Chilgok Culture Street Festa is a street festival held along Road 1 near Waegwan Station in Chilgok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The number '205' represents the idea of enjoying healing at the pristine natural setting of the Nakdong River, located 20 minutes by train from Daegu and a 5-minute walk from Waegwan Station, and symbolizes a street festival that anyone can visit without hesitation to enjoy a variety of cultures and festive atmospheres together. During the festival, parades, performances, and exhibitions take place throughout the streets in front of Waegwan Station, and various hands-on programs are run, offering visitors plenty to enjoy. In particular, local artists, residents, merchant associations, and community groups take part together in planning and running the festival, shaping it into a resident-participation street festival where locals and visitors come together.
Why go
This is a community-run street festival along Road 1 in Waegwan's downtown, close to the Nakdong River, with parades, performances, exhibitions, and hands-on programs filling the streets in front of Waegwan Station. Local artists, residents, merchant associations, and community groups run the event together, giving it a genuine small-town, resident-participation feel rather than a large commercial festival.
Getting there from Seoul
Take a Gyeongbu line train from Seoul Station to Waegwan Station; regular (Mugunghwa-class) trains take roughly 2.5-3 hours, or take the KTX to Dongdaegu or Gumi and change to a local train or bus the rest of the way to Waegwan. The festival site is about a 5-minute walk from Waegwan Station, so no further transfers are needed once you arrive.
Tips
- The festival runs along the streets right in front of Waegwan Station, so you can walk there directly with no local transfer needed.
- Expect street parades and performances moving through downtown Waegwan, so arrive early if you want a clear view.
- Confirm the exact daily schedule locally, as this is a resident-run street festival and program timing can shift.
