2026 Geumnam-ro Car-Free Street 'Geotjaing'
Apr 4 – Nov 7, 2026
'Geotjaing' blends a local dialect expression with the English present progressive '-ing,' conveying the idea of walking and enjoying Geumnam-ro together. In line with Gwangju's declaration to transform into a 'Daejabo City' (public transit · bicycle · walking), the event aims to overcome the climate crisis and create a street where rest and communication come together in the heart of the city, including the revitalization of daejabo (public bulletin/communication boards). In 2026, it will be held on the first Saturday of every month from April to November. The event provides an environment where citizens can freely walk, alongside a variety of hands-on programs and cultural performances.

2026 Gwangju Gourmet Week
Oct 2 – Oct 11, 2026
2026 Gwangju Gourmet Week is a food festival that connects Jeonnam-Gwangju's rich food culture and regional gourmet resources into vivid tourism content. Ingredients and food, people and spaces, and culture are linked into a single thread, offering a three-dimensional experience of Gwangju's own distinctive gourmet ecosystem. From master craftspeople and artisans who have long preserved the region's flavors, to young chefs who sensibly reinterpret traditional tastes, to gourmet activists concerned with ecological value, all gather in one place. Beyond simply tasting food, it offers a special journey in which ingredients become dishes and further expand into stories of the region.

Chungjang Street Festival of Recollection
Oct 7 – Oct 11, 2026
The Chungjang Street Festival of Recollection is Gwangju’s largest signature festival, originating on Chungjang-ro in Dong-gu. Built around the universal theme of memories, it is Korea’s first festival of its kind, bringing together people of all generations and backgrounds. Geumnam-ro and May 18 Democracy Square, the festival’s main venues, hold profound significance in the history of democracy. They symbolize not only remembrance of the past but also Gwangju’s journey toward a hopeful future. Recognized for its excellence, the festival has been designated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as both a Cultural Tourism Festival and an Honorary Cultural Tourism Festival. It has also gained international recognition through consecutive honors at the Asia’s Pinnacle Awards and Gwangju’s designation as a World Festival City. Looking ahead, the festival aims to grow into a truly international event through collaboration with the Asia Culture Center, embracing the cultures and shared memories of Asia. In doing so, it strengthens Gwangju's role as a leading cultural city of Asia and provides a meaningful platform for communication and harmony through culture.
