Overview

2026 Hanbok Culture Week is a nationwide hanbok culture event held every year in the third week of October, centered on Hanbok Day (October 21), to promote hanbok—clothing that embodies Korea's beauty and tradition—and to spread the culture of wearing hanbok in everyday life. Now in its ninth year, 2026 Hanbok Culture Week will be held for seven days from October 19 to 25 at more than 410 venues nationwide, including the Open Plaza of the National Museum of Korea. Hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, organized by the Korea Craft and Design Foundation, and sponsored by the Arts Council Korea, the event features programs that showcase the diverse charms of hanbok, including a commemorative ceremony, hanbok fashion shows, exhibitions, performances, hands-on experiences, and academic forums. Through programs connected with various participating venues across the country, the event offers citizens opportunities to see, wear, and enjoy hanbok close to their daily lives, and through programs held at venues both in Korea and abroad, it serves as an occasion for hanbok, a traditional culture, to be carried forward as a culture of today and to exchange with the world.

Why go

This nationwide hanbok celebration centres on Hanbok Day (October 21) and is held across more than 410 venues, with the main hub at the National Museum of Korea's Open Plaza in Seoul. Visitors can see a commemorative ceremony, hanbok fashion shows, exhibitions, and performances, plus join hands-on experiences related to traditional Korean dress. It's a rare chance to engage with hanbok as a living, everyday culture rather than just a museum display.

Getting there from Seoul

The main venue, the National Museum of Korea's Open Plaza, is in Yongsan-gu and is easily reached by subway via Ichon Station (Jungang Line and Line 4), with a direct underground passage to the museum. Taxis and city buses also serve the area from central Seoul in well under an hour.

Tips

  • The event runs across 410+ venues nationwide, so confirm which specific location and programs you want to visit before travelling.
  • The National Museum of Korea's Open Plaza is an outdoor space, so dress for the weather in late October.
  • Hands-on experience programs may have limited capacity; arrive early or check on-site for sign-up details, as specific hours and fees are not listed here.

Best for: culture enthusiasts, families, photographers, first-time visitors.

    2026 Hangang Paper Airplane Festival

    Oct 10, 2026

This year's festival is built around the concept of an 'Autumn Playground,' featuring the Hangang Paper Airplane Flying Competition, where participants fold and fly paper airplanes by the Hangang River on an autumn day, lectures and demonstrations by national paper airplane champions, hands-on experiences for the whole family to enjoy together, performances, photo zones, photo-type events, and on-site event competitions. For the paper airplane competition, the highlight of the festival, applications are accepted in advance on a first-come, first-served basis, up to the maximum capacity of 700 people total, since the competition runs for just one day; applications can only be submitted online. For visitors who were unable to register for the competition, this year an "on-site event competition" will also be held; the event categories will be announced on-site on the day, and anyone present can take part.
